Situated in a sleepy resort town, Beruwala is located on the edge of the Indian Ocean between Colombo and Galle, within an hour’s drive on the new expressway from the capital Colombo. From the Sri Lankan capital, Beruwala marks the start of a southwestern coastal belt of beach destinations that stretches over 100 kilometres.
Beruwala takes its name from the ethnic Sinhalese word that means “the place where the sail is lowered”.
